Center Life
A typical day at Loring Job Corps is full of activities to help our students prepare for the real world. Students get up early and spend the majority of their day receiving academic and hands-on career technical training.
After class, students study or hang out with friends before dinner in the cafeteria. After dinner, students may do chores in their dorms or spend their downtime studying. Most students are in bed by 10 PM in order to rest for the next day's tasks.
Recreation
Loring Job Corps boasts one of the best recreation programs in the nation. Students find our recreational activities to be a fun and exciting way to meet new friends, socialize, and just relax and unwind at the end of the day. We offer traditional sports and games such as flag football, soccer, and volleyball.
Our students can enjoy a multitude of activities on and off center including:
- Amusement park trips
- Camping
- Canoeing
- Dances
- Foosball
- Hiking
- Karaoke
- Movies
- Pool/billiards
- Racketball
- Skiing
- Shopping trips
- Sporting events
- Wallyball
- Weight training
Before students can participate in water-related recreational activities (such as rafting or swimming), they are required to take water safety training. The training includes video-taped water safety instruction and a swimming safety test. Students that do not pass the swimming safety test will not be allowed to particpate in any water-related recreational activities.
Student Government Association (SGA)
The Student Government Association (SGA) is comprised of leaders from our student body and is very involved in the operation of the center. Together with center staff, the SGA can make recommendations in training areas, recreation, food services, health services, and center policies. Other student leadership positions include dormitory leaders, enterprise leaders, career preparation leaders, peer mediators, peer mentors, peer educators, and recreation leaders. All student leaders must participate in leadership training before obtaining a leadership position and must maintain good center standing to hold a position.
Safety
Job Corps is committed to offering all students a safe and secure environment. That's why we have a Zero Tolerance Policy for violence, alcohol, and drugs. Any student who breaks this policy will be dismissed immediately from Job Corps.
Our Student Handbook (787 kb PDF file) includes the rules of behavior that we expect our students to follow.
