Wellness Services
STAYING HEALTHY
We want you to be healthy and fit for work, so we have developed activities that will help you do just that. Our wellness center is open daily for medical and dental services. We offer weight management, smoking cessation, pregnancy prevention, and other health-related programs. Successful employees are healthy employees.
Loring Job Corps Center has an on-site medical clinic, which provides routine and minor emergency medical services to our students.
An open clinic (no appointment needed) is available Monday through Friday between 7:30am and 8:00am for ill or injured students. If there is not an urgent or immediate need for services, appointments must be made in advance. Appointments may also be made for students for extended care, as necessary, after being seen during open clinic hours.
Services available at the Wellness Services department included:
The following services, as well as others that may not be listed here, are not available at the Wellness Services department:Physical examinations, routine medical care, sick-call and emergency care, routine eye examinations and prescription glasses & safety glasses, prescriptions, immunizations and hepatitis vaccine program for health occupations students, routine x-ray procedures, routine lab procedures, routine hearing examinations, birth control/pregnancy testing/obstetrical care for pregnant students, minor surgery procedures, tuberculosis testing and treatment, referrals to outside wellness services providers for treatment and hospitalization as needed, treatment for diabetic and seizure disorder, emergency surgery – if needed for center medical conditions, treatment of warts, diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases, and other services as determined by wellness services personnel.
Contacts (unless ordered by an Optometrist to improve student’s eye sight), elective surgery, payment for abortions, elective diagnostic testing or procedures, such as CT scans, MRI, etc.
All medical bills are the student’s responsibility if the following are true:
Student is absent without leave or other authorization and was injured or become ill during the absence
Student is on home leave
Student goes to medical facility without proper center authorization or referral
TRAINEE EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (TEAP)
We are committed to offering you a drug and alcohol free environment. Just as new employees are drug tested upon hire, you will also be tested for drugs when you enter the Job Corps program. As part of our wellness services, we offer a trainee employee assistance program. Prevention and intervention services, along with short-term treatment are provided to you if needed, to enhance your participation in the program and to increase your employment opportunities.
It is against Maine law for individuals under 18 years of age to use tobacco products. We can provide assistance with tabacco cessation.
