Work-Based Learning
REAL WORK EXPERIENCE
As part of our comprehensive training program, students are provided hands-on learning through work experiences related to the career field for which they are preparing. This is a primary instruction method at Loring.
Job Corps’ training is called “work-based learning” because it combines hands-on skills with related classroom training, then puts that knowledge into practice on an actual job site. Work-based learning students can work from three weeks to six months. Think of it as an extended trial period during which you can assess a student’s potential as a future employee. By sharing your feedback with students and their instructors, you can improve a student’s job performance as well as Job Corps’ training.
Work-based learning may include one or more of the following instructional methods: job shadowing, work site visits, mentoring, company or business tours, internships, paid and unpaid work assignments and vocational skills (VST) projects.
Work sites may be located on center, with a local employer, or an employer at the student’s home town.
Loring Job Corps Center is continually developing partnerships with public and private employers to provide work-based learning opportunities for our students.
Employer partnerships allow us to provide the best trained employees for today’s workforce. Also, employers can provide valuable input for our training programs, which provides them with the best employees.
We are proud to have many local employers as our Job Corps partners. At the bottom of this page is a list of our most involved employers in training and hiring Loring Job Corps graduates.
