WORKS Enterprise
AUTHENTIC & MEANINGFUL
WORKS Enterprise® is one of the primary ways we create authentic and meaningful learning at Loring Job Corps Center. A unique and effective approach to learning environments, WORKS Enterprise® philosphies and practices encapsulate our approach to supporting youth in changing their lives.
The WORKS Enterprise® mission is to promote the economic well-being of individuals, families and communities by developing in the individual an occupational foundation for sustainable employability, and to provide service to the community.
A WORKS Enterprise® is a thematic, production learning environment where all individuals have experience in planning, running and evaluating the business activities of the enterprise. Based on constructivist learning theory, WORKS Enterprise® environments provide individuals the opportunity of learning-by-doing necessary and authentic work in a residential setting. Appropriate academic work is embedded in the daily running of the enterprise and whenever possible, leads to the completion of a high school diploma. Third-party certifications provide opportunities for students to demonstrate learning. Career development services provides for the management of occupational goals and successes. Many center service activites and large portions of managment and maintenance are provided by our enterprises.
